Chapter Number 734

 

On March 27th, 1907, sixteen women met at the Elkins home of Mrs. Margaret Butcher Bent for the purpose of forming a local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.  The name John Hart Chapter was chosen because ten of the sixteen members were descendants of John Hart, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.


Charter Members were:  May Jackson Taylor (Mrs. Blaine), Regent; Miss Edna Scott (later Mrs. Herman Guy Kump), Recording Secretary; Lucy Bosworth Talbott (Mrs. E. D.), Registrar; Florence Butcher Wamsley (Mrs. Jared L.), Treasurer; Sallie Scott Hoover (Mrs. Benjamin Milton), Historian; Margaret Butcher Bent (Mrs. James A.); Miss Hannah Hart Butcher; Evelyn Bosworth Talbott Fling (Mrs. E. O.); Ada Bosworth Harding (Mrs. Clare); Harriet Weymouth Jones (Mrs. Barton); Miss Ruth Morgan Kittle; Lucy Brown McCrum (Mrs. Page); Emma Logan Scott (Mrs. Cyrus H.); Miss Charlotte Lee Wilson; Myra Weymouth Wilson (Mrs. G. N.); May Kittle Yokum (Mrs. Bruce).
