Welcome!

The Kanawha Valley Chapter welcomes you to our website and invites you to contact us if you are interested in becoming a member or would like to attend one of our meetings. We are one of the oldest and largest chapters in West Virginia and new members are always welcome. Be sure to look over our revolutionary ancestors to see if you have relatives in our chapter.

Our Beginnings

The Kanawha Valley Chapter was organized in 1914.  The name was chosen to honor that part of West Virginia through which the great Kanawha River flows.

The Kanawha River takes its name from a small tribe of Native Americans who hunted and fished along its banks.  Today, this waterway winds along one of the most populated and industrialized sections of our state.  Our beautiful state capitol overlooks the peaceful Kanawha.

Designed by Cass Gilbert, Architect; the building was built in three stages beginning in 1924. It was dedicated by Governor William G. Conley on June 20, 1932, West Virginia's 69th birthday.
