Our History

Organized October 1935

Upon the death of Miss Otelia Endler, regent of the Heiskell Jacobs Forman Chapter, NSDAR, the members desired to organize a chapter to include all of the South Branch valley. A meeting was held July 1935 at the Hermitage Inn, Petersburg, West Virginia, at which the State Regent, Mrs. Gary Hogg, was present. A chapter was organized which included daughters from Grant, Hampshire, Hardy, and Pendleton Counties. Mrs. Hogg appointed Mrs. B. H. Hiner of Franklin the regent of the new chapter, South Branch Valley Chapter.

The chapter was officially recognized by the NSDAR Board of Management at its October 1935 meeting at Continental Hall, Washington, D.C.

Its first elected officers were Mrs. Hiner, Regent; Mrs. E. L. Judy, Vice Regent; Mrs. George Arnold, Chaplain; Mrs. Oceola Zimmerman, Registrar; and Mrs. L. L. Church, Historian.Mrs. M. I. Williams became Registrar later that year at Mrs. Zimmerman's death.
